Mister, we just want your car
I feel like updating, I have nothing to say, and it may be boring. Don't say I didn't warn you. You've only yourself to blame from this point foreward.

Well. Considering I go through phases of being, in almost every sense of the word, a recluse... I have a pretty good February lined up to look forward to. I'm aware there are many people in the world that do something immensely 'cool' near enough everyday, but yes, let's ignore those people for now and allow me to relish some of the month ahead (would have been the whole month if it weren't for those pesky exams)...

[This is mainly so I don't forget where I'm supposed to be on which day, that occasionally happens]

- Feb 1st, or 2nd: Myself and Ash are going to see Bauhaus at Manchester Academy! He's excited cos he got into Bauhaus just after they'd disbanded, and he'd resigned himself to the fact that he probably wouldn't be able to see them live ever...So, yes! :D I'm excited because it's PETER MURPHY and She's In Parties, All We Ever Wanted and Spirit are included in the waytoolonglist of my favourite songs ever.

- Feb 4th: I'm going with Caroline [[info]franztastisch], and possibly my brother, to the Maximo Park HMV signing in Manchestarrr. PAUL SMITH>>>LUKAS>>>DRUMMER>>>PAUL SMITH!! It means a lot of standing around in the nippy Mancunian weather, but something tells me it'll be more than worth it!

- Feb 6th - 10th: First week of exams... Could have gone to see The Rakes/Duels on the Monday. But oh no. >:(

- Feb 11th: Off with Lauren [[info]alexjamesnaked] to see some Long Blondes Dj Set thing I saw advertised on their site. It's in the Arndale, Manchester...Oooooooooh, I hope I get to have a chat with them, preferably Kate, and mainly about Elastica, Pulp and Russell Senior. Photo opportunity!

- Feb 13th - 17th Second week of exams...

- Argh why does Feb 13th sound like something's gonna happen? Hmmmmmm... The Boyfriends release I Love You. Some other good band release a good single, too. Oh! Year since Tears gig at Academy 2 (oh, the tension between B&B, glad to see that's subsided...And that the constant cries of "ANIMAL NITRATE!!!" have died down :p)...

- Feb 17th: PUB QUIZ IN SLAIDBURN...ALWAYS A LEGENDARY OCCURENCE

-Feb 20th: Haha!! Best yet! Ash bought Lauren and I tickets to see Jim Noir. This I am WAY. TOO. EXCITED. ABOUT. He's so very talented. So very alluring. So very, remarkably, sickeningly pretty. And so surprisingly young - twenty-three! www.jimnoir.com if you're intrigued by my description --- and who wouldn't be mm?!?

That was far too long and rambly.

I heard that today is meant to be, offically, the most depressing day of the year. Though I did hear that on some low-budget Yorkshire radio show, so I wouldn't trust that fact. It did start off as pretty bad... My "art" "teacher" being a reet pain in the arse... Her ability to wind me up is amazing. I try not to let her irritate me with her gormless ramblings about 'ALL artists copying other artists', but yes, a;lsdjflajselajselivjaselijvaseljasdlkjcase. Ahhh.

Celebrity Big Brother: Pete's mental health. Ha. Ha. Oh dear. All I can say really.

Sven's retiring?! Oh good god what ever will we do 0______________________________0

I've had David Gray songs in my head all day.

The Story of...
Pulp's Common People

Sun 15 Jan at 20:00 on BBC Three
Mon 16 Jan at 00:00 on BBC Three
Wed 18 Jan at 23:45 on BBC Three

After the dust settled on the 90s Britpop phenomenon, one song stood head and shoulders above all others penned at the time...

That song was Common People, and it was written by Sheffield anti-popstar Jarvis Cocker.

The Story of Common People takes a forensic look at the seminal track, and attempts to shed light on its inspiration, its lyrics, and the man who wrote them.

What was it about that girl from Greece "with a thirst for knowledge" and that place (St. Martin's Art College in London) that irritated Jarvis so much? Is the song a reflection of Jarvis's own experiences of people who thought that "poor is cool", or a more general critique of 90s Britain? What really inspired Pulp's straight-talking frontman to write it?

It's a song that doesn't hide its contempt for class tourists, but the lyrics also have an elusive quality. A panel of experts attempt to decipher them, exploring issues of class and identity. But it is only when the story is placed in its context of a dead-end Britain, where people "dance and drink and screw because there's nothing else to do", that it begins to make sense.

Sadie Frost reminisces about pushing Jarvis around in a trolley for the garish video, and Vic Reeves talks about the infamous "Jarvis & Jacko" incident at the Brits in 1996, which made Jarvis a star overnight.

Pulp fans may also be surprised when producer Chris Thomas deconstructs the master recording and suggests the song was partly inspired by ELO's Mr. Blue Sky!

The band are reunited and take a journey back in time to their old rehearsal rooms above a pottery shop, where they reminisce about the song's success and what the track means to them now.

Bringing the story right up to date, Franz Ferdinand and The Kaiser Chiefs talk about the influence of the track on their sound.

Finally, Jarvis talks about the future for Pulp and how the band's biggest hit affected him personally.

Watch out for him playing Common People on the original keyboard he wrote it on.

some views I found on this:

Just a quick thought....maybe this program would give Jarvis the memories of Pulp
"hmmmmmm i loved playing that, maybe its time to get the others....".

It could be near ....the possible reformation....

Does this explain the mysterious sighting of the Pulp life-size cardboard cut-outs in Manchester recently?

I hope it has interviews with all the band. I'd love to know what Mark Webber is up to these days.

Re(1): Pulp back?

Pulp have made no official announcements, nor are they currently planning to reunite. They are, however, weighing the interests of the public. Programmes such as the one airing this Sunday on BBC3 , and the subsequent success or failure of Mr. Cocker's solo efforts, will likely impact the band members' decision to regroup. It is in the interests of both the band and their committed fanbase that Pulp retain a proud and relevant legacy.

Thank you.

did that mean "buy pulp stuff if you want a reunion"?

I've decided to upload these in order to show off... Well, not show off. Actually yes. But I'm very, very bored so that's my excuse... And following a conversation with [info]idiot_guide in Lauren's LJ, I'm in an exceedingly Alex James-y mood... And it just reminded me of these!!

If you are aware of Mr James in general, please download - they are only wee files!

(It's worth it for hearing his voice alone, I tell thee! The way he says words... Very nice.)

Alex James: Sarf London --- From when [info]originpol emailed Alex when he was filling in for Tom Robinson on 6music.

Alex James: Suede --- This is just classic.

Alex James: Dragon Programme --- Second email I sent that night... I think one may call this my bizarre bonding session with him.

ALL FROM THE SAME NIGHT! - He's so legendary it's unbelievable.

...And the transcripts.... )

Haha :D Well, that passed a bit of time... He onced thanked me and Lauren (alexjamesnaked) on air, but I can't find the file :( :(  Oh Lordy... I think I have a wee obsession.

I love it when Alex does 6music... He's constantly confused and comes out with some overly classic lines. Nothing beats his '95 outburst of "We'll be camping it up tonight on Top Of The Pops!!!!" though.....:)

Hmmm. On a more mundane note: Starstarcrazy.com has expired. I don't know whether to re-new it or not.......?

FUCKING HELL, pardon my french, Suede are being used for an MFI advert. If I hear it one more time....I could rant about this for a few dozen hours, I'll stop before it's too late. You should be grateful. Weeeeeeee. T'raaa.

I say 'probably' because, even though I may not update much... at all... I don't like the idea that people I know in real life can read*... but there's probably gonna be public posts anyway...

And anywho, I just wanted to post a picture of Brett and Bernard. Together. In bed. *Hangs head in shame*

And like flies on a windscreen
And like insects in glue
We could stick together, If you wanted to

*I mean, I don't like the idea that they can read this journal... I don't mind them being able to read in general.
